Biography

Haoning Tang is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at UC Berkeley, beginning in March 2025. She received her bachelor's degree from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2016, and her master's and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University in 2018 and 2021, respectively. From 2021 to 2024, she was a Harvard Quantum Initiative Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University before joining Berkeley as faculty. She will be joining the faculty of MIT in the Summer of 2026.

Her research focuses on nonlinear and quantum optical phenomena in metamaterials and quantum materials, leveraging advanced nanotechnologies such as MEMS. Her work spans nanophotonics, quantum optics, metamaterials, integrated photonics, and nanofabrication, with applications in novel light sources, detectors, and reconfigurable photonic systems.

She received the Rising Star of Light Award in 2024, the Harvard Quantum Initiative (HQI) Fellowship in 2021, and the Harvard Hong Kong Jockey Club Fellowship in 2017.

Prof. Tang is actively seeking highly self-motivated prospective postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and visiting scholars in the areas of nanophotonics, nanofabrication and manufacturing, MEMS, and related fields. Candidates with experience in nanofabrication, optical experiments, or computational photonics are especially encouraged to apply.
