VIGL is an X-Windows-based library of routines that provides a simple output interface for visualizing grid structures produced by FIDIL programs. Its routines are also callable from C programs. There are four kinds of objects in the universe of the graphics library: spaces, graphs, grids, and segments. Spaces are windows that correspond to the problem spaces you are dealing with. Graphs are windows that contain a standard x-y plot of some 1-dimensional data. Grids and segments are graphical objects that can be displayed in a problem space. Grids are displayed as unions of rectangular regions filled with colored cells, one for each data point. Segments are displayed as a collection of line segments. The package provides coordinate transformations, contour plots, and interactive display of data. It also allows a distributed configuration in which the display routines (including X-Windows software) reside on a local workstation, while the computation is performed remotely on a supercomputer.
