MRI is a widely used imaging technique to capture high-resolution contrast of soft tissues and functional information, and it has been used for many applications in the medical field, such as imaging lesions, brain activity and blood flow. In this project, we are implementing an innovative MRI technique called two-photon excitation MRI. We are also exploring the first in vivo hand and brain imaging with this innovative technique on two different MRI scanners. To do that, we built two versions of customized coils that can be fit for each scanner. The resulting two-photon gradient-echo images were overall similar to traditional single-photon images with equivalent parameters. Interestingly, we observed some slight differences in tissue contrast whose cause needs further investigation.
