Photonic crystals allow for light manipulation and control of the photonic density of states. This work demonstrates that breaking edge-mirror symmetry is advantageous for compact single-mode cavities based on the valley-Hall effect. This can lead to dense integration of an array of topological photonic crystal cavities.
